About Ron

Ron Pearson, proprietor of the Beach Financial Advisory Service, graduated from Rice University (1968) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology, then served as an aviator in the U.S. Navy for twenty-six years before retiring with the rank of CAPTAIN. During those years he earned two Master of Arts degrees (Webster University - 1975 and Naval War College - 1987).

Ron worked as a financial planner for two years before establishing his own practice in 1994. He is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner, a Registered Investment Advisor representative and an Insurance Consultant who is active in a variety of professional organizations including the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAFPA). He is a past President of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the FPA and has been a member of NAPFA since 1992. .

Ron works with pre-and post-retirees (2/3 of practice) and specializes in disability planning for the seriously ill and disabled, especially parents of disabled children (1/3 of practice). He is an advisor to BIZNET (a non-profit group providing group homes for the developmentally disabled), a trustee of the Virginia Beach Community Trust, a past member of the Virginia Beach Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities and past treasurer of the Task Force on Aging. In addition, he works closely with numerous support groups to provide financial planning information for those who are seriously ill and disabled.

Ron has spoken on “Planning for the Family with a Disabled Child” and other topics at the national, regional and state levels. He has been interviewed for USA Today, Kiplinger Retirement Newsletter, The Journal of Financial Planning, Investment Advisor and Navy Times. He appeared in the PBS TV show, Right on the Money, where he discussed planning for parents of disabled children. He lives and works on the oceanfront in Virginia Beach with his wife JoAnn Mathias. He has two developmentally disabled sons, Bryan 35 and Timothy 32, as well as a daughter and granddaughter in Virginia Beach.
